Building
Community

one

at a time

a community where every individual, regardless of their background, has the tools, guidance, and opportunities to thrive.

IMAGINE

At Workforce Development Unit (WDU), our mission is to expand access to education and career opportunities for youth and adults who have historically been left out of traditional pathways to success.

Founded in Oakland, we work with communities across California to create programs that help people thrive—from early childhood through adulthood. We focus on what people need most to move forward: strong mentorship, trusted partnerships, practical resources, and career-aligned support.

Whether someone is working toward a high school diploma, preparing for a new career, training to become an educator or mentor, or returning to school later in life, WDU helps make that journey possible. We partner with schools, higher education, and employers to connect individuals with the tools, relationships, and confidence they need to reach their goals.

We are committed to breaking down barriers in historically under-resourced communities. With a growing network of partners, we’re building a future where success isn’t defined by where someone starts—but by the opportunities they can access.
